Flower Festival Girona (Temps de Flors 9 – 17 May 2020) CANCELED FOR 2020 BECAUSE OF COVID-19

Temps de Flors (Flower festival in Girona)

Since 1954, Girona is the host city of the free annual “Temps de Flors”. (Translation: Flower time)
It’s a 9 day flower festival event that attracts around 250.000 people every year.
Visit this amazing event of flowers and plants that are shaped into incredible art pieces.

Historical Girona

Girona (Also known as Gerona) is the perfect city to host this annual flower festival.
This event is held in the historical part of the town, full of amazing parks and architecture.
The narrow city center streets, tunnels and the museums are all part of the Temps de Flors.
The historical architecture is so beautiful that you might even recognize the cathedral that is displayed below. Yes, the cathedral of Girona is used in the popular “Game of Thrones” series.

Location: Plaça de la Catedral, 17004 Girona, Spanje

Temps de Flors by night

It’s really a great idea to stay the night in Girona. There are almost 50 event points open at night and it is so amazing that it will become a lifetime memory.
Normally all the places are open till 22:00 but in 2020 there are 3 special days that they open till 24:00:
Saturday 9th of may
Wednesday 13th of may
Saturday 16th of may
Because there are over 250.000 visitors a year, I advise you to book your hotel early.
All the available hotels in Girona you will find right here.

Things to discover

During the Flower festival of 2019, we discovered a very impressive civil war bomb shelter right at the beginning of the route. The countless small pathways and rooms are open for you to visit. There is a room with historical information and they also make an amazing light show in one of the chambers.
Furthermore, there are all sorts of museums, landmarks, and other cool things to discover for free.

All the information needed

Date and time of the event

In 2020 the event will be from may 9th till may 17th.
Every day from: 10:00 – 22:00.
Saturdays (may 9 & 16) and Wednesday (may 13): 10:00 – 24:00.

Accessibility

Although not the entire route is easy accessible for disabled people, a very big part of the route is.
Therefore, I would say that this event is fun for all ages and for type of with disabilities.

Starting location

My advice is to go to the “Plaça de Catalunya” because the 1st point of the tour is always around that area. Get yourself a free map that they provide on basically every point of the tour. (Keep in mind that there are around 140 points that you can visit so come early).
