Jardí Botànic Marimurtra (Botanical Garden Blanes)

Carl Faust (Founder Botanical Gardens Blanes)

The botanical gardens in Blanes were founded in the year 1924 by Carl Faust (1874- 1952).
As a kid, Carl Faust was already very interested in natural science, but his parents kind of guided him towards commercial business. As a result, he partnered up and started an industrial machinery company in Barcelona. (Faust y Kammann, which still exists).
Finally at the age of 50, he stopped being an active manager and devoted all of his time to his naturalistic hobbies. That’s when the Marimurtra Botanical Gardens in Blanes was born.
You might have seen the statue of Carl Faust on the seafront of Blanes.

The biggest botanical garden in Blanes

At the reception/souvenir shop you pay a 7€ entrance that allows you to discover over 4000 plant species, and most of them are exotic. Also what you might not expect is, that its huge.
It might not look that large from the outside, but once you’re in you’ll notice a tunnel that guides you to another big area.
The botanical gardens have wells, ponds and fountains along the paths that guide you through all sorts of international origins zones. There is also a small bar/restaurant and some toilet facilities.
Besides, almost the entire garden is accessible for disabled people.

Special events

The Marimurtra botanical gardens organize a lot of events. There are often guided tours which you can join for only one euro more. There are also events that allow you to visit the garden by night in the company of some local musicians. For all the events planned while you are in Blanes you should check this link.

Amazing views at the Costa Brava

The garden is situated over a small bay which results in the most beautiful panoramic views over the Costa Brava. Therefore it´s not a surprise that many weddings are held, right here.
